AIRA sent a coordinator and interpreters to the school. (No19-8)
  Date & Time  : 10:00 ~ 14:00  June 27th (Thurs.), 2019
Venue  :  Namiki elementary school (the 5th and the 6th  grades)
Attendees :  15 NAU students, NAU Japanese Instructor, Mary Adachi
AIRA  : AIRA President, Hesaki, VP, Kitajima ,AIRA English Instructor, Yamaguchi,  Ms. Kurata

Arriving at the elementary school, the NUA group was given a brief description for the day and greeted by kids.  Then the two exchange classes for the fifth grade started at 10:35 (the third period) and the other two classes for the sixth grade at 11:25 (the fourth period).  The pupils had prepared questions in advance.  They gradually felt comfortable with the college students and talked and asked questions freely.  This scene was more often seen in the sixth grade.  The kids asked the college students very intelligent questions, such as “What do you think of former President Obama?” or “What do you think of the incumbent President Trump?”  Two of them performed “Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen” of Piko-Taro, which made the room full of laughter.  Animated cartoons and YouTube performances were also on the topics of their talk.
The fact that some pupils could speak good English showed evidence the international exchange program exerted a good influence on them.
NAU students had school-lunch and took part in cleaning.  They learned how to use a broom from the kids and wiped the floor of the classroom and the corridor carefully, by mimicking the way they did.  The college students were taught how to wring out a rag at a washing place.
At the end of the exchange classes, kids and the college students repeated “Rock-Paper-Scissors” with a shout of “One-Two-Three” again and again as if they were reluctant to part from the visitors from U.S.
Ms. Kurata interpreted questions of a JCOM cameraman when one of the college students got a cable TV interview.
