201903291AIRA Evening Class had an event for the students to talk with each other freely in Japanese at this fiscal year’s last class       (No.18-22)

Participants: 13 students, 5 Japanese volunteer teachers (Komiyama, Osaki, Tagosi,
Karai, Umeki without honorifics)

“The Evening Class”, in which people who are unable to learn Japanese in daytime and/or want to upgrade their Japanese are studying, held a fun event “ Let’s eat delicious dishes and chat” as the last class of FY2018. The dishes had been cooked by Ms.Aki Fukayama, from Vietnam, in her house in advance.
Ms.Fukayama had introduced Vietnamese family dishes at AIRA’s “Cultural Class for Foreigners” held in July, 2018. This time, she cooked not only Vietnamese dishes but also others arranged in Vietnamese style using ingredients available in Japan.
The students took their favorite dishes in a buffet style and ate them enjoying chattering at tables. Some students who had babies after they came to Japan also enjoyed chattering while taking care of their kids moving around.
There were some students who are going to proceed to professional schools after having passed Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT). One of their seniors who passed the N1 of JLPT joined in the event and was looked up to as a goal by the students.
All the participants talked about “My birthday”, “My living place” and “Foods I dislike”.
The food they disliked most was eel, following Natto (fermented soybeans), beef, vegetables, while someone mentioned Udon noodles and Ramen. There was a student whose birthday is March 30 and the one-day-earlier birthday was celebrated by all the participants.
The Evening Class will be held continuously from April onward. Recently, technical trainees are joining in the class, and from now on, it is expected that foreigners working in Japan with special skills will increase. Under the circumstances, the role of AIRA Japanese Class will become more important.
