Ms.Xing Yan appointed “Chii-ba Kun Ambassador”

11.09.13_CIMG4822Date/Time: Tuesday, September 13, 2011  From 3:30p.m.to 4:15p.m.
Venue: Multi-Purpose Hall, Chiba Prefectural Government Main Building

International Affairs Division Chiba Prefecture (IADC) has launched a new program under which foreign residents in Chiba Prefecture are asked to write how beautiful Chiba is in their languages to their mother countries through their web sites and blogs.
Those who undertake such task are called “Chii-ba Kun Ambassador” since they go with
the lovely cartoon character called “Chii-ba Kun” which represents Chiba Prefecture.
IADC had requested AIRA and Chuogakuin University to recommend a qualified candidate for an ambassador. They asked Ms. Xing Yan (Kei-En in Japanese ) to apply for it and got her agreement. She is one of Chinese students at the university and an active member of AIRA.
Applicants were required to submit a report in Japanese covering 3 subjects:
1. What is your impression of Chiba?
2. What in Chiba would attract people in your mother country?
3. Once appointed as a “Chii-ba Kun Ambassador”, how would you introduce Chiba to your country?
Since she answered these subjects appropriately and creatively, she was chosen among many candidates as one of the ambassadors and attended the appointment ceremony at the Chiba Prefectural Government main building.
Out of 24 ambassadors elected from 12 countries and regions, 21 were present at the ceremony. Mr. Ishii, manager IADC, handed each of them a letter of credential.
Mr. Kensaku Morita, Chiba Prefecture Governor, delivered the following words of encouragement:
Chiba Prefecture was damaged not a little by the Tohoku Earthquake on Mar. 11. The number of seaside visitors has decreased by half compared to last year and incoming tourist are also tending to decline.
Chiba is abounding with beautiful natural features and warm hospitality.
Fresh vegetables and delicious fruits are abundant here. I sincerely ask all of the newly appointed Chii-ba Kun Ambassadors to deliver our warm message “How attractive Chiba is ! ” to your mother countries.
Ambassadors had their picture taken with the governor and a Chii-ba Kun.
They will visit places throughout the prefecture with the guidance of IADC.
