At six in the evening a long-awaited party was started by an emcee Mr. S. Iinuma, former Director of Administration Department.
Then, Mr. J. Hoshino, Mayor of Abiko gave a congratulatory speech thanking for volunteering by AIRA members in various activities in the city, and stressing that the City is doing efforts to develop a more peaceful town for inhabitants. He suggested those volunteers for further cooperation in forming a pleasant community in order to have 1300 foreign residents and the incoming foreigners feel comfortable to reside.
After a short kanpai address by Mr. M. Hayasaka, President of AIRA, noisy and cheerful crackers popped all over the hall and a convivial time started. Guests, members, staffs, families and children, all gathered people enjoyed eating and chatting around the table.
Several entertainments were performed: Firstly, an American young man, Mr. Ian McNally sang excitingly one of popular Christmas songs, "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" and two other songs a capella.
Secondly, a Chinese graduate student, Mr. Feng Shuai performed singing womanlike soprano.
Then, everyone in the hall resumed enjoying drinks and dishes and of course cheerful conversation with others. Merry laugh and sigh echoed in the hall at the bingo-game time.
At the end of the party, the whole participants sang "Silent Night" with the lead of Ms. E. Goto accompanied by Ms. Nakamura's piano.
This year's party was outstandingly filled with international atmosphere with the participation of students of AIRA Japanese language classes and overseas students.
