The 13th Abiko International Open-Air Art Exhibition is now open till November 14, 2010, in Fusa area.
The exhibition has got popularity among citizens and the exhibited sites are visited by hikers every day.
Art works are displayed at various locations, ranging from the Gekkoso warehouse of Aijima (Inoue residence) and its neighboring fields, forest and wood, flower plaza, lakeside, bamboo wood, Miyanomori park, Fusa library plaza, etc.
A huge bamboo work with trees and bamboos combined, a large iron objet like a giant snake, broad plastic screen surrounded among trees, carved bamboos lining up along waterside, a giant banner painted by citizens, numerous bamboo rows symbolizing tough life, a mysterious dram with several steel balls rolling, and more art exhibits are drawing lookers interest.
Works utilizing bamboos abundantly are noted for this year's execution.
A massive composition made of over 200 bamboos and well matched to the nature in the Miyanomori park particularly draw warm attention by all.
In addition to the 11 domestic participants, 10 overseas artists from 6 countries
joined for the installation building work. They are from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Finland, Hungary, Germany, Korea and Mauritius.
Art works, 37 in all, are displayed in the large exhibition areas; not only those of professional artists, but several pieces by citizens groups and lovable works collaborated by kids from nearby kindergarten and elementary school.
On October 18, several artists made a courtesy visit to the Mayor and talked on impression of visiting Abiko, aim of making artworks, etc.
A press meeting was held on October 21 at the Mayor's office, where artists explained about respective exhibit, aim and style of his/her work and so on.
On Sunday, October 31, a 30 minutes opening ceremony was held in the gallery "Gekkoso" of Aijima, to avoid possible rainfall outdoor. The hall was packed with visitors and the ceremony was congratulated by the special guest, Mr. Bela Bozsik, the Hungarian vice ambassador and his wife.
Following the ceremony, long-awaited "lecture hiking" was kicked off.
Notwithstanding the post-rain weather, over 50 walkers, probably the largest number of participants in the past, started for exhibits appreciation tour making a long line. At the each display site, its author explained about the aim and the performance of the work.
Like every year, AIRA's volunteer interpreters have cooperated in the significant occasions such as courtesy call to the mayor, Teganuma cruising, press meeting, opening ceremony, lecture hiking, coordinators' meeting, and so on. (vol.131)
