Japan Bird Festival 2007 and AIRA

thumb_jbf2007Date: 10/Saturday, 11/Sunday, November, 2007
Venue: Teganuma Park and 4 other locations
Sponsored by: Executive Committee of JBF

The festival was held at the Teganuma Park, the main location, and at the four other sites surrounding the Teganuma Lake.
Notwithstanding a bad weather on the first day, more people visited at the main location than expected.
The transference project of albatross in Torishima island, 600 km south of Tokyo, to the other island of 300 km south, now being conducted by the Yamashina Ornithology Institute, is one of the most significant themes of the Festival.
AIRA has been participating in the festival since 2005, sympathizing the painstaking project in the form of publicizing it on a bulletin board at the AIRA booth.
At the same time to embody the spirit, AIRA has been selling Manju (Japanese bun stuffed with sweet mashed red beans) with a bird's figure branded on its top.
The birds' designs were, kingfisher in 2005 and albatross in 2006.
This year albatross and coot, the symbolic bird of Abiko, were chosen. The box containing a pink and a white Manju was neatly wrapped with a watercolor picture cover.
At first the sale was feared because of bad weather, however, the all manjus were sold out including the reserved ones.
The net profit of the 2-day sale is scheduled to be donated to the Yamashina Institute, wishing a successful operation of the albatross transference project in Ogasawara Islands.

As the sole participation of overseas body, The Wild Bird Society of Taoyuan, Taiwan opened a booth next to us this year again. We cooperated and deepened exchanges.
On the previous night we had a party with the people from Taiwan at the Karaoke hall in the town. Everyone enjoyed singing or listening to the Japanese and Chinese songs.
In the evening of November 10, the first day, a gala reception was held at Kureo with distinguished guests such as the Mayor, the chairman of the JBF Executive Committee, and others. The hall was jammed with people related with the festival. Some groups pleased reunion after one year.
The second day, November 11, every booth and temporal shops were flocked by many visitors under the cloudy but cozy weather condition.
The 2007 Bird Festival thus came to an end with many success.
Additionally, AIRA manjus were happily sold out on the second day as well.
