A Foreign Student Teaches us Today !

thumb_ryugakusei2007Visiting Day: Friday, Novemer 9, 2007
Visiting School: Kohoku Junior High School (Municipal)
Sponsored by: Board of Education, Abiko City
Arranged by: The Association for International and Visual Education
Foreign Students: Male 5, Female 8 (Nationalities: Bangladesh, Brazil, Bulgaria, China, Iran, Israel, Korea, Lithuania, Russia, Senegal, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Turkey,)

Under the program "Ryugakusei ga Sensei" ("A foreign student teaches us today ! "), a huge number of foreign students visited the Kohoku J.H. School for lecturing.
After arrival, every student entered the respectively assigned room.
The regular classes had been temporarily split into 13 smaller classes for this purpose in advance.

The writer, making a whirlwind trip to the all classes to see how were they like, could not pay close attention to the all intensive lectures given by the foreigners.
But the next several episodes aroused my interest considerably.

The Lithuanian language resembles Sanskrit of old India.
Senegal is situated at the "nose" of the African continent, and is as a very important nation as that of human being.
Chinese people assume their country resembles a chicken in shape.
The Russian "teacher" was at a loss in the beginning because students in the room did not raise any questions, but later as she started to dance wearing folk costume and clapping castanet, the class became more relaxed and softened.
In Israel, due to religious reason, people don't eat fish without fins and scales.
The Taiwan teacher explained that minority groups live in the island wearing distinctive dresses, and asked some students to try them on.

Every teacher did his/her best for an attractive presentation in addition to the explanation of general subjects such as the national flag, culture, greetings, etc.
What the writer was impressed was that the all foreign students were very proud of their own country.
After the class, each teacher was invited in for a school lunch at the class together with students.
In the end, the school master, Mr. Arikawa expressed his thanks to the all foreign students.
