Participants: 14 persons
A potluck party was held as the closing class of the AIRA 2006 Culture Course series.
The intention of a potluck party is quite simple: everyone can attend with any kind of a homemade dish cooked with casual and inexpensive ingredient, and all dishes brought are shared by all.
Among the party attendants there were a Taiwanese and a Malaysian who had just completed Japanese language class, together with their teacher. Some AIRA staff members also attended.
Nice looking dishes were assembled on the table. Now let's see what were they.
Four kinds of sushi (nigiri, saba, chirashi, inari), sekihan (red rice), chimaki (a rice cake wrapped in bamboo leaves), nishime (braised chicken and vegetables), yakisoba (chow mein, Japanese and Korean styles), "bifun" (mifen, rice vermicelli), spring roll, sandwitch, donut, pumpkin soup, tsukemono (pickled vegetables), vegitable salad, and pineapples, strawberries, etc.
Each dish was seasoned either in Japanese or Oriental, or Occidental style.
The kind and volume of dishes were more than enough for everyone.
Then each one made a brief self-introduction, smacking his/her lips over the delicious courses on the table.
While the people were enjoying the sociable party, three hours rolled on so quickly.
