Venue: Chiba Prefectural Tegano-Oka Boys Nature House
Organized by: Joint Committee of Boys Nature House Festival and International Relations Associations Federation
The International Relations Associations of 5 cities, Abiko, Kashiwa, Kamagaya, Noda and Nagareyama, and JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) jointly displayed panels with photos, pictures, reports, etc. showing activities of respective associations at the gymnasium in the Boys Nature House.
Some of the participating groups ran casual stands selling locally harvested fresh vegetables, coffee, popcorn, candy floss, etc. By virtue of a fine weather, outdoor stalls and flea markets were crowded with lots of visitors, mostly those of families.
Back in the gym various kinds of entertainment programs were prepared on the stage: students of nearby elementary, junior and senior high schools performed chorus singing, brass band playing, Ohayashi (traditional cheerful musical performance) and lively Japanese drum beating.
An unfamiliar performance, " Rad" was demonstrated on the stage.
The Rad, pronounced "ra:t" standing for a wheel in German, was devised and developed in Germany and was recently introduced in Japan as a new type of sports.
Two wheels 2 meters in diameter each are set in parallel and fastened at about 1 meter apart by several steel pipes at several points on both sides.
Inside the wheels a man, holding firmly the pipes, turned around on the ground, or 2 men played seesaw. It looked like a sport requiring strengthened muscles and high technique.
More entertainments were shown on the stage. The members of Noda chapter performed folk dances of Philippines and Thailand, and members from Kashiwa City played well-known good old tunes on electric guitars, gaining loud cheers among the audience.
