Venue: Teganuma Park and its neighboring sites
Organized by: Japan Bird Festival (JBF) Committee
The Japan Bird Festival, celebrating its 6th meeting this year, has become more popular among bird-lovers throughout the country as an established large-scale annual event in Abiko City. Following the first participation in 2005, AIRA took part in the festival again with more substantial contents as follows:
1. Displayed a special message supporting activities by the Yamashina Institute for Ornithology who is endeavoring to transfer albatrosses from Torishima island of Izu Islands to Mukojima island of Ogasawara Archipelago in order to escape from possible island's eruption in near future.
2. Displayed a chart of national or most-popular birds of 30 countries.
3. Exhibited bird pictures drawn by Croatian children.
As an AIRA's specialty, members worked hard for selling manjuu (red-bean paste stuffed bun) with albatross's burn atop, commemorating the successful bird-transfer operation. The manjuu boxes wrapped in a paper with water-colored drawing of refreshing Teganuma scene painted by one of members, drew visitors' attention greatly and were sold out around noon time on both days. A profit of the sale is planned to be donated to the Institute.
On November 3, a gala party was held at the Civic Hall attended not only by many exhibitors and people concerned but the executives of the Institute of Birds Study of The Republic of China (Taiwan), the first participation of any overseas organizations.
Following the welcome address by the Committee's Chairman, the all attended from various cities and towns exchanged greetings and shared joys of participation.
Thanks to the fine weather on both of the days many visitors enjoyed looking at various booths and performances at the delightful spots.
