Place: Abista, Bird Museum, and 3 other locations
Sponsored by: Japan Bird Festival Committee
The Japan Bird Festival has been held yearly since 2001 with the sole subject "bird", celebrating its 5th meeting this year. The festival took place at public buildings and open areas along the Tega lakeside. As one of the new participants in the event, AIRA took up its position at a well-located booth in the Tega park.
The very special feature of AIRA was the limited sale of red-and-white manju (bean-jam-stuffed bun) with kingfisher's image stamped atop, commemorating the wedding of the princess Norinomiya. The design was chosen after the subject in which she was engaged as her specialty while studying at the Yamashina Institute for Ornithology in Abiko city. It is also believed that citizen's feeling of joy is embodied in the symbolic sweets.
The charmingly packaged manju drew visitors' attention and reputation so ardently that all scheduled numbers of box were sold out before noon on both days.
Incidentally, the revenue of the day is planned to be donated to the Institute.
